Why Women Love Romance Novels?

14 Sep 17 - 05:20

In this day and age, it is futile to argue with women regarding their being the weaker sex. We all know they're not and whatever men have accomplished, women have proven themselves capable of accomplishing a lot of things. Apart from physical issues, differentiating the two sexes may not be a very easy task anymore. In the older days, this was almost a very natural thing to do, but now, times have changed. Still, if we are to be completely honest, women are still significantly different from men and one of the most poignant points we can raise to prove this is the way women handle their emotions.

More often than not, women are more emotional and this most likely has something to do with why they are more inclined to patronize romance novels than men. Indeed, women just love reading those romantic novels which is a hobby they usually begin from adolescence. Women do enjoy getting in touch with their emotions and this is probably why they always enjoy reading love stories. A man who presents himself as a hero to a woman he dearly loves is always a favorite subject. Time and again, females have proven themselves to be the greater market when it comes to romance paperbacks.

A practical dimension to why women love romance novels more than men is perhaps their tendency to associate what they read with their own lives. Women enjoy watching love stories and picking out similarities with their own love stories. They also love drawing out lessons from what they've read and applying these lessons in their own relationships. A simple way of saying this might be that women have a great capacity to look into themselves and know who they are in terms of their emotions. When they read romance novels, they can easily identify with the plot and the emotions of the characters because, perhaps, they are stronger than anyone else in terms of facing how they feel inside and owning up to these feelings even if these may indicate a certain weakness.

If there's a good thing about women's fascination for their emotions, it's perhaps that they may be more able to handle their inner selves than men. Statistics show a significant difference between the frequency of men committing suicide over women, and this somehow proves the point. Women like to deal with how they feel and do not necessarily associate this with being weak. As a result, they become stronger because they become brave enough to face their failures. In terms of relationships, they are strong enough to read about their own failures and accept that they have failed and they are almost always willing to fall in love again because they know this is simply a part of life.
